Presentation by Sarah Hardy of the De Morgan Foundation
Sarah Hardy, Director of the De Morgan Foundation, gave us an exclusive presentation on the life and work of the most prestigious potter of the Victorian Arts and Crafts Movement. We wil discovered how William’s mathematician father influenced his geometric patterns and how his work with Persian tiles led him to use cool blues and turquoises in his own ceramics.
The talk was followed by a tour of the exhibition, Sublime Symmetry, with Sarah, who curated this stunning show of William De Morgans geometric ceramic designs.
Sarah began her career in museums over ten years ago, as an intern at the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Since then, she has worked at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, on education programmes and at the National Gallery and the British Library on international exhibitions. She joined the De Morgan Foundation in 2018, where she manages the De Morgan Collection, curates exhibitions and publishes widely on the De Morgan’s and Victorian arts.
