Private tour of the Town Hall, Liverpool and afternoon tea at the Racquet Club Hotel, Chapel Street
You may well have walked past it many times so this was an opportunity to explore one of the finest surviving town halls of the 18th century. The Grade I listed Liverpool Town Hall, established in 1749 and crowned by a statue of Minerva, has greeted the late Queen Elizabeth II, The Beatles and the Dalai Lama, to name but a few.
We were guided through the oak and mahogany Council Chamber, via some of the plushest, most old-fashioned working loos in existence (as seen in Peaky Blinders), up the grand sweeping staircase, past the city’s exquisite silver collection of civic regalia and eventually through to the Main Ballroom with its maple sprung dance floor and dazzling chandeliers.
Following our visit, we took a short walk down to Chapel Street for afternoon tea at The Racquet Club Hotel, itself an architectural gem of the city.
