A history and art walk around New Brighton, Wirral
Margo Storey, a Blue Badge Tourist Guide, took us on a walk that mixed fresh air, street art & great views with the history of this seaside town founded by James Atherton in 1830 as a fashionable watering hole.
New Brighton was a premier holiday resort in the 50's and 60's for the North West and the walk included the site of the tower where the Beatles and Jerry Lee Lewis performed and which looks over the fabulous skyline of Liverpool.
Fort Perch Rock - a coastal defence battery built ~ between 1825 and 1829 to protect the Port of Liverpool and as a fortified lighthouse.
Some of the most distinctive features of New Brighton are the recent wonderfully painted buildings by local and international street artists.
