Talk and tour of the Yoko Ono Centre and Tung Auditorium, Liverpool University, followed by lunchtime concert
Sean Ono Lennon officially opened the University’s new teaching and performance venue, named in honour of his mother, in March 2022. The centrepiece of the new building, the Tung Auditorium, provides incredible new facilities for teaching as well as a full programme of events throughout the year. Designed by local architects, Ellis Williams, with cutting edge acoustic specification from Arup, the Tung Auditorium is a remarkable space for solo, chamber, choral and orchestral performances.
We began our visit with coffee/tea and biscuits before Emily Magee, Artistic Administration Graduate Intern, showed us around this amazing building and talked to us about its conception.
We were then be able to listen to a lunchtime recital of music when John Gough and Tom Kimmance played a selection of music, including works by Mozart, Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Joan Trimble and Cecile Chaminade, on the Tung’s two Steinway pianos.
